Mission Trip 2010 Day Three: Quick post tonight. Long day at the house, it was HOT! We couldn"t seem to drink enough water today. We started two new projects today (roof and power pole replacement) as well as knocking out most of the painting. We finished off the day with a dinner provided by the St. Joseph's parish an...d some entertainment by some local musicians. We all learned the Virigina Reel tonight, good time had by all. Good night and God Bless.
Ashley: Mission Trip 2010 Day Two:
we started off our day bright and early at 6:30. Sister Jean came to the house and we loaded up the trucks with ladders, paint & power tools and we made it to the house by 10:30. we got quite a lot accomplished today..
amber & i spent most of the day scraping paint off of windows and the side ...of the roof of the house, and then priming & painting them.
My dad got vents put on the holes on the foundation of the trailor and helped make the railing on the porch and walk to the front door more sturdy, while Hal & Eric spent a lot if not all of the day putting wooden boards along the side of the roof to cover up holes.
after paint, Rebecca, Amy, Amber and I just helped out and holding ladders, while also keeping a watchful eye out for wasps, which didn't give us tooo much trouble after lunch.
we also spent some time getting to know the family at the house. two of the kids (Daniel, 17 & Patsy, 14) even put on a show by playing guitar and singing for us during our lunch break :)
tonight after dinner we will be heading up to Birch K...now Tower, and hopefully the roads won't give us too much trouble. once we get up there, we'll climb 150-200 steps up to the top, which over looks the beautiful mountains of VA & KY.
we'll be sure o keep ya'll posted on what's going on here in Clintwood & the progresson the house in Haysi :)
Mission Trip 2010 Day One: Sister Jean showed us the mission house for this year. We have noted the jobs we beleive we can accomplish this year. We then made our way over to the Breaks Interstate Park for some lunch and amazing views. We then made our way over to the swimming hole, simply beautiful walk to get down the...re. Ended the day back at the Dorothy Baker House for Taco's. Tomorrow begins the work!
